History

One of the oldest dog breeds the Pug flourished before 400 B.C. The name is believed to derived from ‘Pug monkey’ that Pug dogs resemble to some extent. Originally dating back to Chinese dynasties, Pugs were bred to be companions for emperors and watchdogs at temples. With the increase in trade they were introduced in Europe and shot to immediate fame when fashionable ladies carried them as companions all the time.

They were bred to have skin wrinkles in a pattern of Chinese characters meaning price. The Pugs have always been popular with emperors and rich royalties.
